Introduction
Here is how eValid Rich Internet Application (RIA) monitoring works.

1. Service Level
   With eValid Rich Internet Application (RIA) monitoring you can choose how often you want your test to run, depending on what kinds of problems you are attempting to detect. The available choices are: 5 minute, 6 minute, 15 minute, or 60 minute intervals.

2. Create and Confirm Test Script
   All eValid RIA monitoring activity arises from execution of an eValid test script playback from our monitoring machines. This can be a script that we create for you (based on your description), it can be a script you create specifically for the purpose, or it can be a script taken from your eValid-based web application regression test suite.

   Here are some of the features of your script that you need to think about:

   • Decide Timing Threshold Values
     The eValid script you run can detect time-based thresholds in a variety of ways. You can set maximum allowable times for a single action (e.g. downloading a particular page), for a group of actions (e.g. picking up an item and putting in a shopping cart), for individual images, or for an entire script.

   • Decide Step Reporting Events
     Each eValid script includes a user-selectable set of reporting events, so that the reporting graphs reflect activity in "phases" during the playback. There is a simple convention in the eValid script that enables this feature.

   • Decide Validation Points
     The eValid script that runs your monitoring tests can validate fragments of text, images, objects, vitually ANY kind of page element that can be seen in the page DOM. In some cases, adaptive playback will accept the situation as OK even when the item being validated has moved around the page. (This Adaptive Playback feature can be turned off if you wish.)

   • Decide Email Response Messages
     The eValid script playback can sent you an email message for almost any kind of situation. We need to know what email message (and email address) is to be used for each "monitoring event" situation. If you wish, these email messages can include copies of the current test playback's Event Log or Message Log (sent as an attachment).

   • Script Approval
     At any time during your monitoring service period you can review and revise your script to change thresholds, change message content or even change the script processing steps. Our service allows for regular update of the eValid script. All eValid monitoring scripts are available to customers in AUTOPLAY mode: you can run the script on your machine on a FREE eValid browser to confirm operation.

3. Commit Script To Service
   After we get your OK, it usually takes only one business day to set up your script and begin delivering results.

4. Results Delivery
   We will send you your personal account name and password. You can log onto the eValid Monitoring Reporting 24/7 server to see the results of every test being run.

   On that machine you can see the following reports (and much more):

   • Short Term Graph
     Usually this is the results of the most recent several hours of monitoring. Most users start by graphing the last three hours.
   • Long Term Graph
     Usually this is the results of several weeks of monitoring. Most users start by graphing the last two weeks of activity.
   • Monitoring Event Logs
     You can also review each individual event, PASS/FAIL status, and total response times (including step-by-step times).

   In addition to that information there is an eValid playback event log that is maintained for a fixed period in case you need to study the details of how each test performed.
